Problems and Solutions for Electronic Interchange Guide CD-ROM

  1. My Electronic Interchange Guide does not run
  2. I cannot get anything to print
  3. The Print Preview screen is blank after highlighting several parts.
  4. Parts of the screen seem to disappear or "gray-out".
  5. You already have a previous version of EIG and after you install EIG version 3.2, it does not run.
  6. EIG displays the message: EIG.mdb is not a valid EIG database.
  7. You cannot get more than one cross-reference to print.
  8. When I run Custom Query, all I see is a blank screen.
  9. Restarting the computer after installing EIG, the program doesn't run.
  10. While installing EIG for the first time, you get the message "OLE files cannot be overwritten."
  11. EIG will not run and your computer can be dual booted from Windows 95 or Windows NT. You must restart your computer and reinstall this program.
  12. My computer performs slowly when I enter part numbers.
  13. The computer seems to take long periods of time running Custom Queries.

Problem: My Electronic Interchange Guide does not run.
Solution: Each Electronic Interchange Guide is a single user CD, and must be in the drive for it to function. The program can be installed on multiple machines, but can only be in use where the CD resides. It will not function on a LAN.

Problem: I cannot get anything to print.
Solution: Hold down the "CONTROL" key while you select the parts you wish to print. To select a part, click the gray button to the left of the part number and the line should be highlighted in blue.

Problem: The Print Preview screen is blank after highlighting several parts.
Solution: A printer driver needs to be installed to use the Print Preview function. Consult your Windows users manual for help on how to install a printer driver.

Problem: Parts of the screen seem to disappear or "gray-out".
Solution: This problem has been seen on some computers. Try adjusting your monitor's settings or simply use the mouse and click where part numbers should be to refresh the screen.

Problem: You already have a previous version of EIG and after you install EIG version 3.7, it does not run.
Solution: You must remove any previous version of EIG before installing version 3.7

Problem: EIG displays the message: EIG.mdb is not a valid EIG database.
Solution: The EIG database was moved since the last time you used the program. Use the browse window to find the EIG.mdb database.

Problem: You cannot get more than one cross-reference to print.
Solution: Hold down the "CONTROL" key and select the items you wish to print. The items should become highlighted.

Problem: When I run Custom Query, all I see is a blank screen.
Solution: The search you performed did not find anything. Try your search again and change your search parameters.

Problem: Restarting the computer after installing EIG, the program doesn't run.
Solution: You either have an early version of Windows or an early version of OLE library. See the "Downloads:OLE Update" section below for more information.

Problem: While installing EIG for the first time, you get the message "OLE files cannot be overwritten. You must restart your computer and reinstall this program."
Solution: The system is using OLE files. Do not delete any files, simply restart and rerun setup.exe again.

Problem: EIG will not run and your computer can be dual booted from Windows XP or Windows NT.
Solution: You need to install EIG on every operating system. This means you will have to install EIG twice - once on each system. You may install EIG over the location where you first installed it.

Problem: My computer performs slowly when I enter part numbers.
Solution: Disable the "Hot Lookups" under the "Options" menu.

Problem: The computer seems to take long periods of time running Custom Queries.
Solution: A variety of issues might impact the performance. Try reducing the number of fields you select, or consider using EIG on a faster computer.
